Apple renamed the iPhone Operating System to iOS4 for the fourth version. This is because it runs the iPhone, iPod, and iPad, not just the iPhone.
I have access to the pre-release version as a developer and am running it on my phone now. Barricade and X-Ray Timer work the same as always so don’t be scared to upgrade.
The update is available to everyone for free June 21’st and I recommend it very much.
One BIG change is that the update is now free for iPod Touch users! I have spoken to iPod Touch users that couldn’t run the apps because they didn’t pay for the OS update. Now it is free so I recommend to do so. (only generation 2 & 3 can run the update)
I tested them both and they are both functional on the iPad.
I’m curious how many techs may get these for use in the field.

This is an application to replace the aggravating usage of slide rules to calculate radiography shot times. It is applicable to Industrial Radiographers working with radioactive materials (not x-ray machines).

Added ability to to use additional shielding other than the collimator.
This is a very handy utility for Industrial Radiographers.
Ever get tired of using a clumsy slide rule to make radiation calculations? Or, even worse, doing them by hand with a pencil and paper!
This app will eliminate the need for this.
This app is very simple to operate. You simply enter the curies, choose the source, and the shot time in minutes (if less than 60). Hit the Calculate button and your are done.
The app makes four separate calculations for you. I will explain these below;
1) It calculates the the distance to the Barricade (dose of 2 mR/hr) without any shielding factored in.
2) It calculates the distance to the barricade with a common 4 half-value layer collimator included.
3) It calculates the distance to the barricade in an emergency or worse case conditions (eg. source malfunction).
4) It tells you what the maximum allowable reading on the barricade is. This is used when shooting for much less than and hour and the barricade is small enough that more than 2 mR/hr is observed.

I just wanted to put a few things to remeber about the state examination and notes for studying for it.
The exam has 125 questions, but only 100 of the questions count. Some of the questions are for statistical analysis and validation purposes. You DO NOT get credit for these if you get them correct. The bad news, you have no idea which questions count and which ones do not, so treat all of them as if they count.
You have 3 hours to finish the test. Be soure to answer all the questions. Even if you have to guess you have a 25% chance of getting it correct.
The test schedule may be found on the Lousiana DEQ website at the bottom of this page (There are lots of documents of the page, it is in the last section toward the botton of the page. I didn’t put a direct link to the file because they change the link sometimes).
Bring a calculator you are comfortable with and I would recomend bring a cheap backup. You can find cheap ones with a suare root function as cheap as $1.
I ususally use disposable mechanical pencils that are marked for #2 lead. The reason I use these is they are always sharp and that seems to make it easier to fill in the ovals on the answer sheet.
Last, whatever you do, DO NOT PANIC!!!
The test is designed so that you will be nervous and fell bad and uncomfortable when leaving the test. expect that and don’t let it panic you. However, do not underestimate the test, it is dificult and you must prepare for it.
